Each rate covers delivery, 7 days on site, pickup, disposal of the included tonnage and driveway protection boards. See the dumpster sizes guide if you are not sure which container matches your job, or jump straight to the 20-yard dumpster rental page for our most-booked option.
- 10-yard: $375 with 2 tons included
- 20-yard: $455 with 2 tons included (most popular)
- 30-yard: $550 with 3 tons included
Every fee that can apply
We would rather you see the full list now than on an invoice. Most rentals only pick up one of these, the fuel surcharge. The rest depend on how long you keep the container, how heavy the load is and what goes in it.
- Fuel surcharge: $35 flat, once per rental
- Extended rental: $25 per day beyond the included 7 days
- Weight overage: $110 per ton over the included tonnage
- Mattress or box spring: $100 per item
- Tires: $75 each
- Dry run: $125 if the container is blocked or the site is inaccessible when we arrive
- Overweight (DOT) penalty: $125 per ton when a load is too heavy to legally transport

Worked examples with real totals
Example 1, a standard kitchen remodel in Virginia Beach. A 20-yard at $455 plus the $35 fuel surcharge comes to $490. If the debris stays under 2 tons and the job wraps inside 7 days, $490 is the whole bill.
Example 2, a garage cleanout in Norfolk that runs long. A 10-yard at $375, plus $35 fuel, plus 2 extra days at $25 each ($50), totals $460.
Example 3, a contractor renovation in Chesapeake. A 30-yard at $550 plus $35 fuel is $585. The load weighs in at 4 tons, which is 1 ton over the 3 included, adding $110. The total is $695.
Example 4, a bedroom refresh with old bedding. A 20-yard at $455, plus $35 fuel, plus two mattresses at $100 each ($200), comes to $690. That example is a good reason to look at mattress disposal options when bedding is most of the load.
How to keep overage and extra fees off your bill
The biggest swing in any dumpster rental cost in Norfolk, Virginia Beach or anywhere else is weight. Shingles, tile, plaster, wet yard debris and soil are dense, and 2 tons goes quickly. Put heavy material in a 10-yard and keep it level with the rails.
Plan your 7 days before the container arrives. Have helpers lined up, pre-stage debris near the drop spot and schedule pickup as soon as you are done rather than letting the box sit.
Keep the drop area clear on delivery and pickup days. A car parked in front of the container or a locked gate is what triggers a $125 dry run. Finally, check what can go in a dumpster so prohibited items do not end up in the load.
Military and first responder discount
Active duty, veterans and first responders get 5% off residential rentals with valid ID. On a 20-yard, that is $22.75 off the $455 rate, bringing the rental to $432.25 before the fuel surcharge. Families clearing out before orders can also read our military PCS move cleanout guide.
Dumpster rental vs junk removal: which costs less?
A dumpster is usually the lower-cost choice when you have the time and hands to load it yourself, especially on remodels and roofing jobs that produce debris over several days.
Junk removal makes more sense when the items are heavy or awkward, like a sleeper sofa, piano or hot tub, when you have no driveway space, or when you simply want it gone in one visit. Our crew does the lifting and loading, and the price is quoted by volume and items after you send a description or photos. Many customers compare both quotes before deciding.
Questions We Hear Most
How much does it cost to rent a dumpster in Hampton Roads?
Our flat rates are $375 for a 10-yard, $455 for a 20-yard and $550 for a 30-yard, each with 7 days included. Add the $35 fuel surcharge per rental. A typical 20-yard job with no overage or extra days comes to $490 total.
Is delivery and pickup included in the price?
Yes. Delivery, pickup, disposal of the included tonnage and driveway protection boards are all part of the flat rate. Weekend deliveries are booked in advance at no extra charge. Same-day delivery is available on weekdays when our schedule allows; there are no same-day deliveries on weekends.
What happens if my dumpster weighs more than the included tons?
Weight over the included tonnage is billed at $110 per ton. For example, a 20-yard that weighs 3 tons is 1 ton over and adds $110. If a load is so heavy it cannot be legally hauled, a $125 per ton overweight penalty can apply, so keep dense debris level with the rails.
Do you charge more for Virginia Beach or Suffolk deliveries?
No. The same flat rates apply across our service area: Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Newport News, Hampton, Portsmouth, Suffolk, York County and Isle of Wight County. The $35 fuel surcharge is one flat amount per rental, not a mileage charge.
Can I swap my full dumpster for an empty one?
We do not offer swap-outs. When your container is full, we pick it up and you can book a new rental if you need more space. Because of that, choosing a size one step larger up front often costs less than booking a second container later.
Does the military discount apply to commercial jobs?
The 5% military and first responder discount applies to residential rentals with valid ID. Mention it when you book and have your ID available at delivery. Contractors and businesses running repeat jobs should ask about our Priority Pro contractor program instead.
