Mattress Disposal in Hampton Roads

Mattresses are floppy, heavy and almost impossible to fit in a car. Our mattress disposal in Hampton Roads gives you two clear options: add it to a dumpster or have our crew carry it out.

Two Ways to Get Rid of an Old Mattress

Option one: put it in your dumpster. If you already have a roll-off from us for a move, cleanout or remodel, mattresses and box springs can go in for $100 per item. Just tell us how many when you book or before pickup.

Option two: crew pickup. Our junk removal team comes inside, carries the mattress out and hauls it away. That's quoted by item along with anything else you want gone, which makes it the better fit when you don't need a whole container.

Counting Pieces Before You Book

The fee is per piece, so count carefully. A queen set is usually two pieces: one mattress and one box spring. Many king sets use a split foundation, which means one mattress plus two box springs, or three pieces in all. A memory-foam mattress on a platform frame is a single piece, and the frame itself is regular debris.

Bed frames, headboards, rails and slats are not charged as mattresses. Toss them in with the rest of the load or have the crew take them with the set.

Rather Load It Yourself? Flat-Rate Dumpsters

Delivery, pickup and disposal included. $35.00 fuel surcharge · $110.00/ton over the included weight · $25.00/day extra days · $100.00 per mattress. Full cost breakdown.

Why Mattresses Carry Their Own Fee

A mattress takes up a lot of room for its weight, and its springs don't compact or settle like mixed debris. That's the reason for a flat per-item charge instead of letting it count against your tonnage. Tires work the same way at $75 each. See the full list on our what can go in a dumpster page.

Mattresses as Part of a Bigger Cleanout

Most mattresses we see aren't solo jobs. They come out alongside a dresser and nightstands in a bedroom refresh, or as the last piece of a full-house estate cleanout. When that's the case, a container usually works out better than paying for several separate trips.

A 10-yard dumpster is $375 with 2 tons included and a 7-day rental, which leaves plenty of room for a couple of bed sets plus the rest of a room or two. Add $100 for each mattress or box spring, and the $35 fuel surcharge per rental. For bulky pieces that aren't mattresses, see our furniture removal page.

Move-Outs, Rentals and Dorm-Season Turnover

Mattresses pile up fastest when people move. Landlords near Old Dominion University in Norfolk, owners of oceanfront rentals in Virginia Beach and families relocating out of Portsmouth all run into the same problem: a bed nobody wants to load into a truck. Our rental property cleanout service handles abandoned beds along with the rest of a unit.

  • Strip sheets and mattress pads before pickup
  • Wrap a mattress with bed bugs in plastic and tell us when you book
  • Clear the hallway and stairway so the set can be carried out flat
  • Stand the mattress on edge in the dumpster to save floor space

Questions We Hear Most

How much does it cost to put a mattress in a dumpster?

Each mattress or box spring placed in one of our dumpsters is $100 per item. That fee is on top of the rental itself, which starts at $375 for a 10-yard with 2 tons included. Let us know how many pieces you're adding so they show up correctly on your invoice.

Does a box spring count as a separate item?

Yes. A box spring or foundation is charged as its own piece at $100. A queen set with one mattress and one box spring is two items. Split king foundations count as two box springs, so a full king set with a split base is three items in total.

Can you pick up just one mattress?

Yes. Our junk removal crew can pick up a single mattress, though most people add a few other items to the same trip, such as an old dresser or bed frame. Crew pickups are quoted by item, so text a photo to 757-250-7985 and tell us where the mattress is in the home.

Are bed frames charged the same as mattresses?

No. Metal and wood bed frames, headboards, footboards and slats are regular household debris and do not carry the per-item mattress fee. They can go in your dumpster with everything else or ride out with the crew alongside the mattress set.

Do I need to tell you ahead of time about a mattress in the dumpster?

Yes, please. The $100 per-item fee applies to every mattress and box spring that goes in the container, so listing them when you book keeps your invoice predictable and avoids surprises at pickup. If you're unsure whether something counts, such as a futon pad or crib mattress, ask before loading it.

Can a futon or sofa bed go in the dumpster?

A futon frame or a sofa bed is furniture and goes in the dumpster as regular debris. A separate futon mattress or pad may be treated as a mattress, so ask before loading it. If you're not sure how something will be counted, call or text 757-250-7985 with a photo and we'll tell you before pickup.
