Crew teardown or DIY with a container?

There are two ways to get rid of an old shed. With our junk removal service, the crew takes the structure apart, loads every piece and hauls it away. You don't need tools, a trailer or a free weekend. Pricing is quoted by size and materials, so send a few photos and the rough dimensions for a quote.

If you're handy and have help, renting a container is the other route. A 10-yard at $375 holds most small wood or metal sheds, and the 20-yard dumpster at $455 fits a larger shed plus whatever was stored inside it. Both include 2 tons and a 7-day rental.

Clearing out what's inside first

Most sheds are full before they come down. Old mowers, rusted tools, bikes, patio furniture and garden supplies all need to go somewhere. Our crew can haul the contents along with the structure. If you're using a container, keep these out of the load:

  • Gas cans, oil, antifreeze and other liquids
  • Pesticides, fertilizers and pool chemicals
  • Old paint unless the cans are completely dry
  • Car and lawn tractor batteries
  • Tires, unless you pay the $75-per-tire fee

Decks, playsets and fence runs

The same approach works for other backyard structures. Deck removal produces a lot of treated lumber, joists and posts, and often concrete footers. A small deck fits in a 10-yard, while a large multi-level deck usually needs a 20-yard. Wooden swing sets and playset removal jobs are bulky but light; cut beams to length so they lie flat.

Old fence runs fit in the same container as a shed or deck. If you're also clearing brush around the structure, our yard waste dumpster page has loading tips, and concrete pads or footers are covered on the concrete and dirt dumpster page.

The slab, the floor and the footprint

Many sheds sit on a wood floor over blocks, gravel or a concrete slab. The wood floor goes with the structure. Breaking up a slab is a separate job, and that concrete belongs in a heavy-debris container that isn't filled to the top. Tell us what's under your shed when you ask for a quote.

Container placement also matters. Sheds often sit at the back of a lot, so we'll drop the box on your driveway with protection boards underneath and you can wheel debris to it. Plan for a clear path on pickup day; a blocked container leads to a $125 dry run fee.

Backyard teardowns across nine cities and counties

From our Portsmouth base we handle shed removal in Virginia Beach neighborhoods like Kings Grant and Little Neck, older backyards in Portsmouth and Norfolk, and big lots in Chesapeake, Suffolk and Isle of Wight County. On the Peninsula we cover Newport News, Hampton and York County.

Clearing out more than one building? Our garage cleanout service pairs well with a shed teardown. Call or text 757-250-7985 with photos to get started.

Questions We Hear Most

How much does shed removal cost in Hampton Roads?

Crew shed removal is quoted by the size of the structure and its materials, so send photos and rough dimensions for a price. If you'd rather tear it down yourself, a 10-yard dumpster is $375 and a 20-yard is $455, each with 2 tons and 7 days included.

Will you tear down the shed or do I have to?

Either works. Our junk removal crew can disassemble the shed and haul all of it away, or we can deliver a dumpster so you can do the demolition on your own schedule. Many homeowners pick crew removal for metal sheds and DIY for small wood ones.

What size dumpster do I need to remove a shed?

A small wood or metal shed usually fits in a 10-yard dumpster. A larger shed, or a shed plus the items stored inside, fits better in a 20-yard. If there is a concrete slab to break up as well, talk to us about weight before you load.

Can you remove an old deck along with a shed?

Yes. Deck boards, joists, railings and posts can be hauled by our crew or loaded into the same container as the shed. Concrete footers add weight, so mention them when you book or request a quote. Small decks often fit in a 10-yard container.

Do you remove old swing sets and playsets?

Yes. Wooden playsets, swing sets and metal frames can be taken apart and hauled by our crew, or cut down and loaded into a dumpster. They are bulky but fairly light, so cutting beams to length helps them fit. Send photos and we will quote crew removal.

Can you haul away what's stored inside my shed?

Yes, our crew can remove mowers, tools, furniture and general clutter along with the structure. Fuel, oil, chemicals, batteries and wet paint can't go in a dumpster, so drain small engines and set aside hazardous items before removal day. Send photos for a quote.
